Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has picked a former senator and founder of Baze University, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate. Labour Party national chairman, Julius Abure, said the unveiling will be done in Abuja on Friday. Obi settled for Baba-Ahmed, a politician turned academic, following the resignation of Dr Doyin Okupe, who had been the placeholder for the position. Anambra demolishes Odumeje’s church for ‘obstructing waterway’

T he Anambra government has demolished the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, a church belonging to Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, an Onitsha-based cleric better known as Odumeje. The church was said to have been marked by the Anambra state physical planning board (ANSPPB) over “obstruction and blockage of free flow of water at the Nwangele-Bida drainage”. The exercise, which is being carried out by a joint government task force, commenced from Bida road by Modebe avenue, Fegge, Onitsha. Other buildings, shops and perimeter fences were also affected. According to the Anambra government, the structures were marked since April 2022 and all developers and building owners were served notice to remove such illegal structures. Governor Seyi Makinde was on Thursday evening seen with governors Nyesom Wike and Okezie Ikpeazu of Rivers and Abia States respectively. Wike and Ikpeazu have been on holiday in Turkey for days. The photo of the trio has been sparking some speculations on social media, especially in light of recent expressions of disaffections in the Peoples Democratic Party. A Facebook user, Mike Onwukwe, who shared the photo said, “Govs Wike, Ikpeazu and Makinde holidaying in Turkey. Something is cooking, they will serve it when ready.” A tweep, Ukaegbu Nnadozie Princewill said, “These guys are cooking something hooge.” Meanwhile, Adesina Samson dismissed the trip as inconsequential. 2023 ELECTIONS: INEC EXTENDS VOTERS’ REGISTRATION INDEFINITELY

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing voters’ registration indefinitely. In a memo signed by the secretary to the commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission instructs all resident electoral commissioners to continue with the CVR exercise. She added that the commissioner is making necessary arrangements to increase the number of human and material resources needed for the exercise in a bid to ensure that no one is disenfranchised during the elections It could be recalled that INEC had initially set Thursday 30 th June 2022 as the deadline for the CVR which many Nigerians kicked against.

Honour The Peace Agreement You Entered With Okomu - Iyase of Udo The Iyase of Udo, Chief Patrick Igbinidu, has urged the people of Marioghioba community, Ovia South West local government area of Edo, to always honour its agreement with Okomu Oil Palm Company Ltd. The Iyase also urged the community to avoid unnecessary aggression against the company which could be construed as breach of their peace agreement . He said this in an interview with the  News Agency of Nigeria  in Benin while reaction to Wednesday’s attack on the company by the community . In the incident where the community was protesting the constitution of a vigilance group by the company it allegedly damaged the company’s excavator .
